The Local History Museum of Dilijan was opened in the 1950s. Exhibits found in the city during the construction works were displayed there. Later the collection was replenished with the works transferred to the museum from the funds of the National Gallery of Armenia. Over time, it grew to 700 works, which became an issue of housing them. Initially, the gallery was located in an old building used as a hotel, but in 2008, it was decided to disassemble the old building and build a new one in the same place. In 2010, the official opening of the museum in the new beautiful building was held. As of today, the collection of the museum consists of about 400 works.
