Ararat Brandy Factory

Armenia is famous for its brandy and wine production culture. Armenian brandy production was started in 1887 in Yerevan by a merchant and philanthropist Nerses Tairyan, who established first brandy factory in Yerevan. Later, in 1899 the factory was sold to the Russian company “Shustov and Sons”. The new owners were active industrialists and renovated the factory using the latest technologies and hiring the best experts. In only a quarter of a century, Armenian brandy achieved international recognition and truly imperial frame. Armenian brandy brought Shustov the Grand-Prix at an exhibition in France. Personal contribution of these talented people resulted in a world popularity of Armenian brandy in the beginning of 20th century. In 1923, the company joined the ARARAT trust, together with other alcohol production companies. Armenian brandy became famous throughout the globe, particularly, as the favorite drink of Winston Churchill. In 1953, the production moved to the new building of Yerevan Brandy Factory. Today Yerevan Brandy Factory attracts many visitors who can have a tour in the factory, get acquainted with the history of brandy production and taste some brands of the legendary Armenian brandy.
